A common fact about the characteristic of teak is its durability. The high level of resinous oil present in the timber helps to act as a natural insect repellent making the wood highly resistant to rot caused by fungal decay or attack by termites and other wood boring insects. This attribute allows the wood to last many years without any treatment or finishing.
Our teak plantation supplier is owned and managed by the Indonesian Government. Perum Perhutani (Indonesian Public Corporation Forestry) is responsible for managing a strict policy regarding the size and the quality of trees felled each year. Perum Perhutani has diligently applied the policy of cutting and replanting that has been the base of successful teak wood cultivation in Indonesia since the middle of 19th century.
All solid wood used in our furniture is kiln dried to a moisture content of 8 - 12%. Kiln Drying ensures wood dryness at the core, not just the surface. Wood is selected for consistency of color within each piece of furniture and is free of voids. checks or major discoloration.
